May TBR part 2

Moving on I do have more books to add to my pile.

Series

Pensioners (Pensionärsligan) by Catharina Ingelan-Sundberg.

This is a translated work from Swedish. This will also works toward my Around the world, complete series and read more translated works challenge, so overall this is a great pick.

The little old lady behaving badly

Book description: In the third hilarious, unforgettable installment in internationally bestselling author Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg’s League of Pensioners series, Martha and the League’s latest escapade has them headed for the French Riviera in what is sure to be the most daring caper of the summer.

Martha and her friends are sitting comfortably in Sweden… a little too comfortably. Determined to do more for their fellow pensioners—and jazz things up for themselves—they’re up to their usual antics: bank robberies, money laundering, and figuring out how to disappear in a garbage-truck-cum-getaway-car. They have their sights sets on building a resort village for seniors, but that’s going to take money. Lots of money.

While stalking their millionaire neighbor, Carl, on Facebook, Anna-Gretta scrolls through his photos—all of them featuring luxury yachts on the Riviera—and an idea comes to her on how to solve the League’s cash problem. When she shares the hare-brained scheme with the others, they’re all aboard.

Their plan to cheat billionaires out of their luxury yachts in the south of France’s sun-bleached Saint-Tropez soon turns into the heist of their lives with the police hot on their heels—as well as a couple of ruthless ex-cons. Now this wily group of walker-equipped conspirators are hell-bent on accomplishing their dangerous mission—no matter the consequences.

When DeGraff captures three of Noah's friends, can the kids ally with their rivals in order to save every person and animal in the zoo—all while dodging the town's police? An entertaining and fast-moving series that's perfect for reluctant readers and will appeal to fans of Dan Gutman, Michael Buckley, and Andrew Clements. School Library Journal said, "Fans of fantasy, animal fiction, and adventure will enjoy this fast-moving story." The author originally had the idea for The Secret Zoo when he was nine and wondered what would happen if zoo exhibits had secret doors that allowed kids to go inside—and the animals to come outside. He brings that sense of adventure and excitement to this story, making it a favorite for home and classroom reading along with such middle grade fantasy favorites as The One and Only Ivan.

Mongolia

The blue sky by Galsan Tschinag

The first installment on the Blue Sky Trilogy #1

Book description: In the Altai Mountains of northern Mongolia, the nomadic Tuvan people’s ancient way of life is colliding with the pervasive influence of modernity. For the young shepherd boy Dshurukuwaa, the confrontation comes in stages. First his older siblings leave the family yurt to attend a distant boarding school, followed by the death of his beloved grandmother and with it, the connection to the tribe’s traditions and deep relationship to the land. But the greatest tragedy strikes when his dog — “all that was left to me” — dies after ingesting poison set out by the boy’s father to protect the herd from wolves. His despairing questions to the Heavenly Blue Sky are answered only by the silence of the wind.

The gray Earth by Galsan Tschinag

The second blu sky trilogy #2

Book description: This powerful, sweeping novel continues the saga of Dshurukawaa, the Tuvan shepherd boy introduced in The Blue Sky. Torn between the onset of visions and pressure from his family to attend a state boarding school, the adolescent attempts to mediate the pull of spirituality and pragmatism, old ways and new. Taken from his ancestral home, he reunites with his siblings at a boarding school, where his brother also serves as principal. Soon he comes to understand that the main purpose of the school is to strip the Tuvans of their language and traditions, and to make them conform to party ideals. When tragedy strikes, Dshurukawaa begins to sense the larger import of his visions, and with it a possible escape. Tschinag's lyrical language, his striking characterizations, and his evocation of a singular way of life make The Gray Earth an unforgettable read and a worthy follow-up to The Blue Sky.

Algeria

La Mujer sin sepultura by Assia Djebar

Book description: La Femme sans sepulture is Zoulikha, the forgotten heroine of the Algerian war, who joined the maquis in the spring of 1957 and disappeared two years later, after her arrest by the French army. An exceptional woman, so alive in her reality as a mother, lover, friend, political opponent, in her absolute and painful commitment, in her approach to freedom which has sealed her life since childhood and which has never never left, his radiant presence floats forever above Caesarea.

Angola

Jaime Bunda. Agente Secreto by Pepetela

Book description: Set in modern-day Luanda, this satirical crime novel introduces readers to Jaime Bunda, an overweight, incompetent detective set on the trail of a murderer. Through misstep and mistake, Bunda finds himself embroiled in crimes of passion and international criminal networks as he stumbles through contemporary Angola. This mystery pokes fun at the James Bond genre while offering humorous insight into contemporary Angolan culture.
