Magical Readathon Orilium Spring Equinox

This is created by G from Book Roast. The original announcement can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROcPDsqmurs&t=232s

I have been participating since this was created and it has been so much fun. Really looking forward to it again this round.

The overall idea:

You choose a career, if you have been participating before you can select if continue the same career and move on to the next level of accomplishment or start from scratch on another one.

G is a wonderful person and even has a video explaining how to stat with this readathon, it can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtBWB6ATEdQ&t=146s.

G Drive where you can find and download the printables and prompt sheet. This includes various files from previous rounds (make sure to check the folders!), logos, Brief History of Aeldia file, Callings (there are higher quality files and also lower ones if you need a smaller file), Sorting choices, badges, and transcripts for accessibility. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Yxt3yHOUo4CfHHu4FnAZfOs9AW_mwEKO

For this year my choice of calling is Demonologist

For now the Spring Equinox:

So now for each book, I will use only a single book.

Conjuration: The recommendation comes from the Literally Dead book club hosted by Kayla from booksandlala. This is the book selected for April, it should fit on the recommendation.

The writing retreat by Julia Bartz

Book description (from GoodReadds): Five attendees are selected for a month-long writing retreat at the remote estate of Roza Vallo, the controversial high priestess of feminist horror. Alex, a struggling writer, is thrilled.

Upon arrival, they discover they must complete an entire novel from scratch, and the best one will receive a seven-figure publishing deal. Alex’s long-extinguished dream now seems within reach.

But then the women begin to die.

Trapped, terrified yet still desperately writing, it is clear there is more than a publishing deal at stake at Blackbriar Estate. Alex must confront her own demons – and finish her novel – to save herself.

This unhinged, propulsive, claustrophobic closed-door thriller will pull you in and spit you out.

Demonology: Book compared to your favorite. For this one, the favorite I'm using is The Martian by Andy Weir. For this, I found the science fiction series: Frank Kittridge by S.J. Morden. The first one in the series is One Way, it even has a similar image cover. On a side note: If possible I want to read both of the books in the series this month.

Book description: It's the dawn of a new era - and we're ready to colonize Mars. But the company that's been contracted to construct a new Mars base, has made promises they can't fulfill and is desperate enough to cut corners. The first thing to go is the automation . . . the next thing they'll have to deal with is the eight astronauts they'll send to Mars, when there aren't supposed to be any at all.

Frank - father, architect, murderer - is recruited for the mission to Mars with the promise of a better life, along with seven of his most notorious fellow inmates. But as his crew sets to work on the red wasteland of Mars, the accidents mount up, and Frank begins to suspect they might not be accidents at all. As the list of suspect grows shorter, it's up to Frank to uncover the terrible truth before it's too late.

Dr. S. J. Morden trained as a rocket scientist before becoming the author of razor-sharp, award-winning science fiction. Perfect for fans of Andy Weir's The Martian and Richard Morgan, One Way takes off like a rocket, pulling us along on a terrifying, epic ride with only one way out.

Spells & Incantations: Target length 389-415 pages. For this, we're using one of the author challenge books- Echo boy by Matt Haig.

Book description: Audrey's father taught her that to stay human in the modern world, she had to build a moat around herself; a moat of books and music, philosophy and dreams. A moat that makes Audrey different from the echoes: sophisticated, emotionless machines, built to resemble humans and to work for human masters. Daniel is an echo - but he's not like the others. He feels a connection with Audrey; a feeling Daniel knows he was never designed to have, and cannot explain. And when Audrey is placed in terrible danger, he's determined to save her. Echo Boy is a powerful story about love, loss and what makes us truly human.

Elemental Studies: Flowers in the cover.-- The Lord of Opium by Nancy Farmer.

Book description (from back cover): The new book continues the story of Matt, the boy who was cloned from evil drug lord El Patrón in The House of the Scorpion. Now 14 years old, Matt rules his own country, the Land of Opium, the only thriving place in a world ravaged by ecological disaster. Though he knows that the cure for ending the suffering is hidden in Opium, Matt faces obstacles and enemies at every turn when he tries to use his power to help.

Lore: Book with a map - I must betray you by Ruta Sepetys.

Book description (from back of book): Romania, 1989. Communist regimes are crumbling across Europe. Seventeen-year-old Cristian Florescu dreams of becoming a writer, but Romanians aren’t free to dream; they are bound by rules and force.

Amidst the tyrannical dictatorship of Nicolae Ceaușescu in a country governed by isolation and fear, Cristian is blackmailed by the secret police to become an informer. He’s left with only two choices: betray everyone and everything he loves—or use his position to creatively undermine the most notoriously evil dictator in Eastern Europe.

Cristian risks everything to unmask the truth behind the regime, give voice to fellow Romanians, and expose to the world what is happening in his country. He eagerly joins the revolution to fight for change when the time arrives. But what is the cost of freedom?

Shapeshifting: Wolf on cover, title author's name. Death of a Wandering Wolf by Julia Buckley

Book description (from GoodReads): Hana Keller is enjoying a day off from serving up tea and delicious pastries at her family's Hungarian Tea House when her downtime turns deadly....

The only thing Hana loves more than a good cuppa is finding a delicate porcelain treasure to add to her collection. She's usually on the hunt for teacups but when she spots a rare wolf figurine at a local yard sale, she knows it's her lucky day. Hana also knows the wolf is valuable and tells the seller that he's charging too little for it. His reaction is peculiar--he says he received the wolf from someone he doesn't trust and he just wants it out of his life.

Hana is inspecting her new prize when she finds a tiny microchip attached to the bottom of the porcelain wolf. When she shows the figure to her police detective boyfriend, Erik, Hana is shocked to learn that the chip is actually a tracking device. They decide to confront the seller about the sneaky sale but when they arrive at his house, they find him dead. Erik and Hana now must hunt a calculating killer who has no intentions of crying wolf when it comes to murder.

This looks like its going to be a blast.
