Book Description (from GoodReads): When the improbable road leaves Avery and Zib in the land of Air and at the mercy of the Queen of Swords, escape without becoming monsters may be impossible. But with the aid of the Queen's son, the unpredictable Jack Daw, they may emerge with enough of their humanity to someday make it home. Their journey is not yet over; the dangers are no less great.

Review:

Avery, Zib, the Crow girl, and the drowned girl are still on the Improbable Road. And as usual, things don't exactly go according to plan. This time their detour has them show up in the Queen of Swords land, and oh boy is she a tough nut to crack.

This gives us a look into how the different rulers live and by what rule their power is transferred. It's very intriguing. Our heroes get to meet Jack Daw, he's the Queen's son in a way. He is unpredictable and it's hard to tell if he will be an asset or an enemy.

The Sword Queen transforms its subjects into monsters and she's set on making the kids into her newest acquisition. We have the children face their issues, the Crow girl seems to continue to lose herself as the situation keeps making her lose crows and after getting new ones, does she lose herself completely? Also the fear of being returned to her original self, would she be happier if she was to get her heart back and get her memories, and what happens to the person she became, does it disappear? It's a nice concept, Avery and Zib continue to have their own struggles on facing their own "defects".

This is a quick easy-to-read fantasy series, you will love the found family we continue to see develop. It's still whimsical, has great moments, and is sometimes creepy. To be clear the overall plot is not moving too much, we continue to be stuck in the road with no clear sign on how the children will be able to return to the real world.
